Artis Studios runs it’s popular Cherubs baby club in association with the prestigious Master Photographers Association which prides itself on the quality of work of it’s members. Hannah submits a photo from every cherubs shoot into their quarterly competition which recognises the top baby photography in the UK, and we are very pleased to announce that one of her photos has been selected for the shortlist! She took this photograph back in the summer on a second cherubs shoot. We all thought she was a really cute little girl and loved her pretty pink dress, so are thrilled to have got so far in the competition. It means that her parents have won a £25 shopping voucher and if we win overall they will also be presented with a cheque for an amazing £10,000! Although we are already known in the area for our excellent baby photography, it’s an honour to be recognised at a national level.
We invited them back to the studio for another photoshoot so we could present them with their voucher and got some hilarious shots of their daughter plotting how to spend the winnings! Here are our favourites along with the shortlisted image.

After the great success of our last photography course we have decided to run another beginners photography course on April 17th, 2011. The course will be identical to the last one, so those of you who could not make it have a second chance!
This is not a heavily technical course but a course that will look at what makes a good photo. We will be showing techniques that make the difference between a normal photograph and something really special. It is mainly aimed at those who have a digital SLR camera, but are not confident shooting off automatic, or are not getting the results they want. Hannah and Kat will provide one to one assistance to get you started.
The course will feature a short amount of theory around the basics, and then move onto work in our studio as well as on location with a model. We will also be covering the post processing of images (Photoshop) and working with each person individually to make sure they get results that they are looking for.
When people consider pet photography, they tend to think of the dog first and forget about the cat thinking it an impossible task. Hopefully these photos will prove them wrong!
We have a lovely lady who we first met last summer when she began breeding Burmese kittens, and has decided to come to us regularly for a new photoshoot for every litter her cat has. The latest was a really cute litter of six. It was a crazy hour or so in the studio with kittens running rampant and all hands to the deck – including those of our bookkeeper! One of the best setups we find is to line them up on a fairly high plank to try and deter them from jumping off (although this doesn’t always work!) and then catch their attention with cat toys. It often means photographing two or three cats at a time and then cleverly stitching them together in Photoshop later. We think it’s a great idea and once all the kittens are sold she will have a stunning wall piece to remember them by.
In general cats can be quite timid creatures and if yours is one of those then don’t be put off! For cat photography we can always shoot on location and come to your house so that they can stay in their familiar surroundings, so don’t worry about being limited to the studio. As you can see below we can get gorgeous photos of your cat both in and out of the studio, as long as they feel at ease.

At Artis Studios we love to try and help our customers with any special requests that they may have. We were more than happy to ‘play along’ when one of our customers organised a surprise viewing for her husband.
As it was her husband’s birthday she wanted him to think she had organised a photo session for them, and that they were coming in to enquire. Little did he know that she had already been in the previous week with her son for a photo shoot! It was great fun for us, pretending we had never met them before. After sitting them down with some leaflets we offered to show them a quick slideshow of some baby photos we had recently taken. “That baby looks like Harris!” exclaimed her husband before turning round to see the three of us peeping round the corner. “You were all in on it!!”
There were so many great photos that they couldn’t pick just one, and so they ordered the 9-image montage which will look fantastic on their wall. Here are some of the photos they chose.

New to this year we are putting extra emphasis on creating themed portrait shoots. Before each portrait session we ask customers to think about their hobbies and interests and we will then work together on how we can incorporate these into their shoot. This can be as simple as bringing in a few favourite toys, to incorporating props to create a theme.
An example where this has worked really well was a little boy who was passionate about cars and whose parents were both racing car drivers. We got some really cute shots of him and his little brother surrounded by his toy cars. Another boy bought in his favourite bright red toy fire truck. We’ve also had some brilliant shoots with older generations, for example Dominique told us she loved reading and coffee so we took some gorgeous Parisian style night time shots in Ascot high street and one of it’s coffee shops.
For customers who have no specific shoot ideas, don’t worry, we have plenty of them, adding props just makes the photos as personal as possible giving them that extra special edge.
